The Sword @ Emo's Austin (08.12.2007)

OK, I'm still too wiped out from the recent Ween shows to do a full blown review here, but I figured I'd mention that I did happen to catch The Sword at Emo's in Austin on Sunday night. The openers were High Cost Of Living and Saviour. Both were competent enough, decent openers, but nothing too special. I had seen High Cost Of Living before, and I think I liked them a little more than the other band.

The Sword played for about an hour and a half, and they sounded pretty damn tight. Here is the setlist:

01. March Of The Lor
02. The Horned Goddess
03. New Song
04. Celestial Crown/Barael's Blade
05. New Song
06. Freya
07. New Song
08. New Song (Black River/White Sand, or something like that)
09. Iron Swan
(Break)
10. New Song
11. Winter's Wolves

Lots of new material, and it all sounded pretty good. They said that one of the new songs was a 2-parter, and that it was called "Black River/White Sand", or something like that. It kicked some pretty good ass.

Sound was pretty good, except for JD's guitar, which was way too low. Most of the time, it was fairly difficult to hear his guitar parts. Other than that it was a decent show though. Lots of energy, as usual.

Follow-up:

The eighth song was actually a two-parter entitled "The Black River"/"The White Sea". It appears on the album Gods Of The Earth, which was released several months after this show (March 2008).
